For my A2 production I would like to represent the one or more of the following:
- Age
- Gender
- Social Class
- Ability/Disability
- Ethnicity
- Regional Identity
- Sexuality
Initial Ideas:
Rudimental - Love Ain't Just A Word feat. Anne Marie & Dizzee Rascal
My very first idea was to create a music video based on the song 'Love Ain't Just A Word' by Rudimental. This was going to focus heavily on the theme of love and would include the representation of sexuality. The song lyric's focus on spreading love and how it is more than just a word. I intended to get a variety of people in a variety of relationships from parent and child, lovers, siblings and friends of all different backgrounds and of different sexuality's to say what they love about the other person before the song begins to indicate the theme of the song. I intended the video to be performance based with a female artist featuring a male artist towards the end. As I continues to research and plan I noticed alternative songs to consider that I had a clearer vision of creating.
The Cinematic Orchestra - To Build A Home
My initial ideas for 'To Build A Home' was a narrative based music video. The video was going to consist of a middle aged male protagonist walking through an empty house where his memories of his past relationship come to life. It begins where the male protagonist moves into a house with his girlfriend, progressing to the couple getting engaged, getting married and having a child whilst living in the house. The past and the present would constantly fluctuates with the present being evident as each room the protagonist enters it appears to be empty and the past consisting of the house being fully furnished. The present would also be evident to the viewer as the lighting would have been low to represent the emotions of the male and the past would be brightly lit to represent happier times. Throughout the video time would be represented through the ageing of the cast as the child grows up we see time moving forward. The reasoning behind the past being negative is I intended for the ending of the video to be the wife and child leaving the family home with packed bags and the protagonist's memories of him being alone in the house. The final scene would see the protagonist take one last look at the empty house and shutting the door behind him. I had planned to show the emotions of the characters through various close up shots and keeping a strong element of continuity to ensure the audience understood the meaning of the video that connected with the lyrics. The video was intended to show the positives and negative connotations to relationships and contradict the way the majority of media products glamourize modern day relationships. Due to the resources, experience in regards to editing and having a low budget I decided to continue with another idea I had to get the best possible result for my production.
Rudimental - Alien Bashment
Another idea I had was to base my video on the song 'Alien Bashment'. This was going to be a song about the youth representing age. Due to there being a lack of lyrics it was going to be a narrative theme. I intended to create a narrative of 2 brothers of similar ages, one with high aspirations and the other uninspired. The opening shot would be them both leaving their family home going separate ways and as the video continued it would begin to show each individuals daily routine, one being positively productive and the other showing a negative interpretation of the youth. They would eventually cross paths during their daily routine. The message behind this narrative is that not every adolescent is the same and the youth of today are not a bad demographic that is perceived through stereotypes. This song had minimal words and was more of an instrumental track meaning there was a lack of opportunity to use lip syncing so I decided against this initial idea, however this idea developed more research into basing my production on the representation of the youth.
RAT BOY - SIGN ON
I finally decided on a suitable song that assisted all of my intentions when considering my production. I have decided to use the song 'Sign On' by Rat Boy for my A2 project. I will be including the representation of age throughout my video and it will be performance based with little narrative.
