Role Allocations and Casting

 Role Allocations

Due to working individually on my music video project I come under the bracket of an auteur, this label comes from the following theory:

Auteur Theory

François Truffaut introduced the auteur theory around 1954; it is a dated theory but is still used within modern filmmaking stating that an individual filmmaker is fully responsible for the creative processes that make the finished product. The auteur is viewed as the true creator of a film taking on all the roles of writing, casting, producing, directing, filming and editing.

Casting

When casting I decided to cast Olly Burrows as the male protagonist in my music video. He is aware of the artist Rat Boy and also studies A Level Media Studies, so is aware of the requirements I have for the coursework process. The fact Olly is a media student and is aware of the song and artist overrules the fact he has little acting experience. Due to my product being performance based, emotion isn’t necessarily required.

I have also casted male skater Louis Crookes, he has a vast amount of experience in regards to skating and can do a variety of stunts allowing me to gain professional shots for my music video. At the start of my video I intend to have a diverse group of individuals explain what they want to be in the future, many students have volunteered to be part of this section of my production including Millie McIntosh, Callum Byrne and Rosie Carver. These students do not require any acting skills as it is based on real life expectations and experiences.

All of the cast must wear casual clothing when filming footage but not specific colours or items of clothing are required as long as the attire is appropriately worn.
