Requesting Permission

The Copyright, Design and Patents Act 1988, the law gives the creators of literary, dramatic, musical, artistic works, sound recordings, broadcasts, films and typographical arrangement of published editions, rights to control the ways in which their material may be used. This resulted in me having to request permission to use my chosen song throughout A2. I conducted both a letter and an email to send to Parlophone Records to gain the rights to use the song for my music video.

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am currently a year thirteen student attending Landau Sixth Form Academy Tamworth, studying A Level Media Studies. A2 Media consists of a task that requires students to create a music video using an existing song. I am writing to you to request permission to use the song ‘Sign On’ by Rat Boy, which will enable me to complete my project. The assignment is for educational purposes only and will be entirely non-profitable.

If you require any further details about this request I can be contacted via the following email 11tilwel@lfatsf.org.uk.

Your assistance is much appreciated; I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you in advance,

Tilly Wellard.
